‘külm on’ (Burnt Mistakes) – [M] 2010

Aggivald, 23, is living in a suburban boiler-house that is fuelled by books – books without endings. The biggest passion for the young man is to write a new ending for each book. Aggivald doesn’t know that his family has a story of its own, a story that reaches back to the Soviet time and has no ending either – (imdb.com)

‘tantsud linnuteele’ (Dances Under the Milky Way) – [R] 2010

Genre: Documentary

This documentary is a retrospective homage to one of the greatest Estonians of all time who spent his adult life in a constant search for the roots of his kin.
Writer and filmmaker Lennart Meri (1929–2006) was the President of the Republic of Estonia in 1992 – 2001.
This film deals only with Lennart Meri’s cinematic oeuvre. It looks at the cultural and social background of his anthropological films: The Waterfowl People (1970)
The Winds of the Milky Way (1977)
The Sounds of Kaleva (1985)
The Sons of Torum (1989) and
The Shaman (1997).
With the help of unique archive materials, a brief overview of the difficulties that the Estonian film industry faced during the Soviet era is given – (docpoint.org)

**Kino! considers this part 1 of a 2 part series. Though not directly related, the importance of the subject material in this documentary will hopefully hold the viewer with a clearer picture of another film we hope to show in time – ‘karu süda’ (The Heart of the Bear)**

Director: Jaak Lõhmus
Features: Lennart Meri
